Regardless, to legally claim one of those CoAs an Englishman would not only have to be descended from the Gentry (not hard, like I said they were 10% of the population) but he'd also have to prove that he had a legal right to that guy's CoA. They didn't all actually have CoAs, and fewer still had them properly registered. In theory they all had CoAs registered with the Kings of Arms.
